If you want to hide the gray in your hair then you must go for a color that has some warm shades to it such as red. Grey hair has no warmth of color attached to it as it is not red. Therefore, if you use a color that has ash tones to it than your grey hair when colored will start looking green or purple. Moreover, with the wrong hair color you might be termed a blue haired lady because your hair color went all wrong. The warm colors are those that reflect the colors of the sun such as reds, oranges, yellows where as ash tones are greens, blues and violets.

If a blonde were to dye her hair then the red will be absorbed by the hair completely leaving the yellow and blue which will appear as shades of green on their hair.
