The first rule that you must keep in mind while choosing your hair color is that it must be as close to your natural color as possible. If you want to hide the gray in your hair then you must go for a color that has some warm shades to it such as red. Grey hair has no warmth of color attached to it as it is not red. Therefore, if you use a color that has ash tones to it than your grey hair when colored will start looking green or purple. Moreover, with the wrong hair color you might be termed a blue haired lady because your hair color went all wrong. The warm colors are those that reflect the colors of the sun such as reds, oranges, yellows where as ash tones are greens, blues and violets.

The most important thing about hair color is how the color is going to look on you immediately, and after it has had time to settle down in your hair. The more natural the colors it will help merge and blend in well with your hair.
If you want your hair to look as natural as possible, then they must have all the three shades that are red, yellow and blue. Blonde hair does not have any warmth hence they need to color their hair to a darker shade. If a blonde were to dye her hair then the red will be absorbed by the hair completely leaving the yellow and blue which will appear as shades of green on their hair. This is certainly not going to be a very pretty sight to look at.

This will allow you to test the color on just a few strands of hair and see how it looks on your hair and matches with your complexion. Hair color must be chosen taking your complexion into consideration and the brightness the color adds.
